  3. Types of Data We Collect. "Personal Data" means data that allows someone to identify or contact you, including, for example, your name, social network identifier, e-mail address, as well as any other non-public information about you that is associated with or linked to any of the foregoing data.
"End User Query Data" means a list of identifiers (e.g., email addresses or social handles) that you submit to our Services for the purpose of learning more about the people behind those identifies, and can be submitted through accessing our API, using one of our applications, or by transferring a file to us through email or another upload method for the purpose of obtaining data from our API.
"Anonymous Data" means data that is not associated with or linked to your Personal Data; Anonymous Data does not, by itself, permit the identification of individual persons.

We collect Personal Data, End User Query Data, and Anonymous Data, as described below.
    1. Personal Data You Provide to Us.
      • We may collect Personal Data from you, such as your name, email address, and/or social network identifier when you sign up for our email newsletter or create an account through one of our web applications.
      • If you provide us feedback or contact us via e-mail, we will collect your name and e-mail address, as well as any other content included in the e-mail, in order to send you a reply.
      • When you participate in one of our surveys, we may collect additional profile information.
      • We may also collect other Personal Data, such as at other points in our Site that state that Personal Data is being collected.
    2. Information Collected via Technology.
      • To make our Site and Services more useful to you, our servers (which may be hosted by a third party service provider) collect information from you, including your browser type, operating system, Internet Protocol (IP) address (a number that is automatically assigned to your computer when you use the Internet, which may vary from session to session), domain name, and/or a date/time stamp for your visit.
      • We also use cookies and URL information to gather information regarding the date and time of your visit and the information for which you searched and which you viewed. "Cookies" are small pieces of information that a website sends to your computer's hard drive while you are viewing a web site. We may use both session Cookies (which expire once you close your web browser) and persistent Cookies (which stay on your computer until you delete them) to provide you with a more personal and interactive experience on our Site. Persistent Cookies can be removed by following Internet browser help file directions.
      • We may collect, and we allow third parties to collect, information about how you use and interact with our Site and Services. For example, we use Google Analytics to track visitor behaviour.
    3. End User Query Data Collected via Macromeasures Services. When you use a Macromeasures app, such as our Hootsuite app, or the Macromeasures API either directly or indirectly (e.g., by uploading a file to our secure FTP server for the purpose of enriching the file with data from the Macromeasures API), we will collect and store End User Query Data from your activity.
End User Query Data means information about your interactions with the Macromeasures API, either directly or indirectly, and can include personally identifying information about the people you wish to learn more about, including email addresses, social network identifiers, and any other data you choose to provide.
    4. Information Collected from Third Parties. We collect the information about you and other individuals from the following third party sources: (a) third parties who license, sell or otherwise provide data they have collected; or (b) information from publicly available sources, such as via the Internet and social networks, including through public or licensed APIs (“Public Data”). We do not collect data from webpages that have been designated (in a standards-based way) as private.

      • send newsletters, surveys, offers, and other promotional materials related to our Services and for other marketing purposes of Macromeasures.
    2. Creation of Anonymous Data. We may create Anonymous Data records from Personal Data by excluding information (such as your name) that makes the data personally identifiable to you. We use this Anonymous Data to analyze request and usage patterns so that we may enhance the content of our Services and improve Site navigation. Macromeasures reserves the right to use Anonymous Data for any purpose and disclose Anonymous Data to third parties in its sole discretion.
  5. Disclosure of Your Personal Data. We disclose your Personal Data as described below and as described elsewhere in this Privacy Policy.
    1. Third Party Service Providers. These third party service providers are required not to use your Personal Data other than to provide the services requested by Macromeasures. Macromeasures requires its service providers to whom it discloses Personal Data and who are not subject to the laws based on the EU Data Protection Directive 95/46 or Swiss Federal Data Protection law to either (i) subscribe to the Safe Harbor principles or (ii) contractually agree to provide at least the same level of protection for Personal Data as is required by the relevant Safe Harbor principles.
    2. Affiliates and Acquisitions. We may share some or all of your Personal Data with our parent company, subsidiaries, joint ventures, or other companies under a common control ("Affiliates"), in which case we will require our Affiliates to honor this Privacy Policy. If another company acquires our company, business, or our assets, that company will possess the Personal Data collected by us and will assume the rights and obligations regarding your Personal Data as described in this Privacy Policy.
    3. Other Disclosures. Regardless of any choices you make regarding your Personal Data (as described below), Macromeasures may disclose Personal Data if it believes in good faith that such disclosure is necessary (a) in connection with any legal investigation; (b) to comply with relevant laws or to respond to subpoenas or warrants served on Macromeasures; (c) to protect or defend the rights or property of Macromeasures or users of the Services; and/or (d) to investigate or assist in preventing any violation or potential violation of the law, this Privacy Policy, or Terms of Use.
  6. Disclosure of Your End User Query Data. We will disclose your End User Query Data to third parties only insofar as it is necessary to perform the services requested by you, and only to a limited set of partners whose capabilities are required to fulfill the services that have been requested by you.
For example, if you provide us with an email address, we may need to disclose that email address to a third party to link that email address to other identifiers that we can use directly, such as social network identifiers. Similarly, if you provide us with a social network identifier, we may disclosed that identifier to an API provided by that social network in order to obtain the raw data we need to deliver our services.
Any data disclosed in this manner is done anonymously; that is, no Personal Data is disclosed in conjunction with any End User Query Data that is sent to the third party. Furthermore, we will only disclose the minimum amount of End User Query Data necessary to perform the services you have requested, and will take reasonable precautions to prevent End User Query Data from being accessed by third parties when it is not necessary for the purpose for which you have provided us the End User Query Data.
  7. Third Party Websites. When you click on a link to any other website or location, you will leave our Site and go to another site and another entity may collect Personal Data or Anonymous Data from you. We have no control over, do not review, and cannot be responsible for, these outside websites or their content. Please be aware that the terms of this Privacy Policy do not apply to these outside websites or content, or to any collection of data after you click on links to such outside websites.
